Bandai has just officially released its newest arrival for S.H. Figuarts’ Dragon Ball line – Super Saiyan Son Goku (The Game Begins). Based on Goku’s appearance during the Dragon Ball Z: Cell Saga, this release introduces a completely new model that emphasizes better articulation and faithful anime adaptation.

According to Bandai, the sculpt was completely remodeled to match the original animation drawings of the 90’s TV series. The result is a stunningly accurate figure of Goku, the way we all know and love including sharp facial features, Super Saiyan gold hair and strong muscles! This patent-pending “Dynamic-Movable Shoulder System” enables greater range of movement in the chest, shoulder and arms. In addition to softer materials around the gi and new joint parts, it allows displaying more natural battle poses such as the iconic Kamehameha stance.
The figure comes with multiple exchangeable parts: a variety of facial expressions, alternate hair pieces, and multiple hand choices. These extra accessories offer flexibility for collectors to recreate different moments from the Dragon Ball anime.
Although the figure’s articulation, and animation-accurate sculpt has widely been praised, a few early reactions were less than positive. Some fans seemed tired of all these Goku releases, since we already have so many in the S.H. Figuarts series. Some noted that the red shading on the legs is too dark, when compared to previous models.

With all that said, the figure has been creating quite a stir across Dragon Ball fan communities. It is widely considered the definitive Super Saiyan Goku in terms of engineering and dynamic posing.
The official Japanese retail price is ¥4,400 (around USD 30-40), however international prices vary depending on availability and cost of imports.
Super Saiyan Son Goku (The Game Begins)’s improved articulation and faithful design represents Bandai’s continuing effort to evolve its S.H. Figuarts Dragon Ball series. Widely viewed as a technical upgrade for Son Goku line, this release stands as one of 2025’s most anticipated figures.
